Don't waste youreslf

This is a cool picture I found on the net of a magazine from the 70's.
I thought it was interesting how the issue of women who "throw themselves away" was present even more than thirty years ago...!
It should really make us, women as a group, think.

Thirty-Two Kilos by Ivonne Thein

Going through some research, I came up with a 29 year-old german photographer and graphic designer. Her name is Ivonne Thein (above), the creator of the exhibition "Thirty-two Kilos", a collection of about twelve photographs depicting non-professional models with anorexic bodies.
The starved bodies are put into high fashion poses in order to provoke the fashion industry.

The picture above is the ad for No-Lita by Oliviero Toscani who clearly influenced Ivonne Thein's work. In fact, the idea of name of the exhibition "Thirty-two kilos"  came from the french actress/model who posed for No-Lita who weighed 32 Kg.

What struck me the most about Thein's photos was the fact that they didn't shock me as much as Oliviero Toscani's did. At first, I superficially thought that it was because I saw the No-Lita ad before so the subject just isn't shocking anymore. But actually, the real difference between Toscani and Thein is that Thein used fashion poses which is what makes her photos less shocking considering that we see similar pictures in magazines everyday.

In any case, I admire both works because a theme like Anorexia has to be treated as a communication tool to induce people to think. Real Information is sometimes hard to take, but it's the only thing that creates awareness, and people HAVE to be aware not only of the risks of such disease, but also of the sociological events that make such a serious disease seem a common issue.

GREEN PEACE

This is a photo I took a couple of weeks ago in Portal del Angel. This is the first very unusual thing I saw in Barcelona.
I focused on the green, and entitled this picture "GREEN PEACE"

MISS SIXTY READY-TO-WEAR COLLECTION FW 2009-210

The goal of this project was to analyze the past F/W 08/09 trends and make a forecast of trends that will be present in the F/W 09/10 collection. The brand I chose is Miss Sixty.
The picture above is the mood-board I created for the F/W 09/10 which represents the general style of the collection: The 80's.
The picture below is the trend-board for miss sixty collection F/W 09/10.

My i-D

This is an i-D magazine cover I made by taking two editorials from the original magazine using them as cover. The 2007 Edition was about rebellion and punk, for this reason I thought the original cover featuring Kate Moss was completely inappropriate and needed some change.
This was the original cover which I thought didn't reflect the content of the magazine

London Street Art - Banksy

Above are a few pictures of some of Banksy's street art works, situated in corners in East London. Banksy has yet never appeared in public, nobody ever saw him even do his works.
He uses spray as fast as lightning and manages to get extraordinary results.
He mostly sprays around the Uk although his trade mark was also seen around some street corners in Europe.

Best fashion ads 2009

Alexander McQueen Ad Campaign F/W 2009
This is one of the best ads made this year. I feel I have no words every time I see it!
The photos speak for themselves.

Dolce&Gabbana Ad Campaign S/S 2009
I find this ad campaign very intelligent. It's not the usual menswear ad campaign, but it actually focuses on the new types of men that exist today (metro-sexual, homo-sexual...)
It was about time that important social groups like those were shown publicly.

Marc Jacobs Ad Campaign S/S 2009
Although I find that Marc Jacob's ad campaigns are too mainstream, I still like this one because it has a "surrealist" feeling to it.
Dsquared Ad Campaign S/S 2009 by Steven Meisel
I really like this modern vision of the bad that fights against the good (or vice-versa)...
Although the photo is "frozen" in a way, because of the cold atmosphere that surrounds the models -Meisel  always managed to express the importance of dynamic movement.
It's a very controversial photo, maybe it's thw reason why I love it so much.

Love for Color

This was Louis Vuitton's window display this last winter. I really like the energy of the colors.
I thought it was great, especially considering that normally the window displays are always very classical.

Me&Creativity

Valeria
I am a student in first year Fashion Marketing&Communications and aspire to be a creative director in the future.
I live for the arts and love to experiment new ways of self-expression .
Communication is really what I am interested in, I feel it is one of the most important things in the world! In my opinion life is about communicating with ourselves and others, we are all able to communicate although not everybody knows how.

One of the most important things in order to be creative is to be inspired. There is still someone that feels that looking at other people's work for inspiration is copying but it's not at all like that! like my Communication teacher says: there "is no new idea, just re-interpretations of other ideas" .

In this Blog I will post anything that could be inspiring for anyone who needs new ideas.
I will also include my personal work for all of you to see, you might find something interesting there.

Enjoy & be Creative!
